I could never understand how the queen justified her hatred for healers enough to refuse their care to her own armies.
My breath caught as I peered inside of the decorative box to see the most stunning dagger I had ever laid my eyes on. The iron blade was black as night, and marked throughout it were swirling designs carved from polished obsidian. The shined hilt crafted with unbelievable detail and stained an emerald green so dark that it resembled the blackness of the blade until reflected in the late morning sun. The last feature I noticed made my heart almost stop in my chest. At the very top of the hilt, there was the head of a wolf carved from white antler. “Nyra,”
As I observed further, it seemed that he was holding her in place, rather than her willingly sitting with him.
“Don't say sorry as if you truly care. I will never give you my name.”
“Why are you doing this?” he asked, panting. I looked up into his hazel eyes that I didn't want to admit took my breath away, but before I could respond, a thunderous crash halted the ship.
The scent of pine enveloped me.
“Those are velaeno berries. They’re extremely poisonous. You’ll be dead within minutes,”
“Fuck. Elianna, jump down, NOW!”
He called me Elianna.
The way his voice cracked when he screamed my name…it sounded like he was concerned. Worried, even. But why? Why would he be worried about someone he just planned to kill? Was it because he needed me to die at the right moment? He didn’t want me to die before I gave up the secrets of Velyra? Which I would never do.
“Is it respect you want, Elianna?”
“On most occasions,”
“Who did that to you.” His tone seeped with rage.
“Once again, you lie to me so beautifully.”
so I am intrigued to know who thought they had the fucking right to do that to a female, especially as a child.”
“Is someone I would want on my side.”
“Then mark my words, Elianna, no matter where our journeys take us…if you desire it, that killing blow is yours.”
“Lia. You can call me Lia.”
“And then you touched her.” He let out a breathy laugh. “You will die for that.”
"I watched him grab you and hold the blade to your throat. I wasn’t willing to take the chance.”
“I couldn’t let you die. Even that first night on the ship. I thought about letting you drown, but I couldn’t do it. The thought of you even being injured…I can’t explain it. It feels as if flames ignite within my very veins and light my entire existence on fire. It's not an option I was willing to accept. Nor will I ever.”
“Beware of the day the pillar falls…”
“Beware of the day the pillar falls, for an heir will rise of blood and malice…”
moment comes that the enemy weeps, a stranger of kin shall forge the way for the one who was promised.”
He turned back to her and got in her face. “You’ve been so bad, my Lia.” Hearing him call her his sent my blood boiling even further.
their one true love. The other half of their soul. Their equal. Their twin-flame.
