Noel needed the money. Offering a hundred grand up front of the 250 grand she would make for the year would hopefully sweeten the deal and force her to overlook the fact that I personally handed over what would likely be her biggest contract ever. She was proud, and if I learned anything about the woman, she wouldn’t appreciate feeling like she was getting a handout.
