“You chase me out here after fake marrying me just so you could slit my throat and I’m the insane one? No way, buddy. You’re not reverse Uno-ing me. I’m trying to survive.”
“I’m going to gift your worthless head to my bride, mortal.” I don’t know who it is that’s speaking, but I like them. They’ve got the right energy for dealing with Callum the almost-killer.
“Is this not gift enough? Who among the living do you seek vengeance on? Tell me and I will tear their limbs from their bodies. I will offer their hearts to you on a silver platter for your enjoyment. Their screams will be your wedding song. Who will it be that I claim in your name?” Everyone. I want them dead. All of them.
Men will sacrifice you for their own selfish gain, but a demon? A demon will make an honest woman out of you, claim you as their wife and destroy your enemies while an eternal magical mystery bond binds you to one another.
“That little shit! Do you know how terrible he was? The only thing he ever talked about was himself and how great everything in the city was going to be. He made me look at apartment floor plans and interior design magazines for hours! And for what, when he was just going to kill me? Do I look like I know the difference between Tuscan Sun and Yellow Mirage, Buffy, because let me tell you, I. Do. Not. Know.”
“That’s not like moonwalking, is it?” “No, not nearly as enjoyable. But twice as lucrative.”
“That a wife is not something you control but cherish. That a wife is a part of their chosen partner. A wife is neither meant to be below or above, but beside their partner. There is little else in all the universes and dimensions, no greater honor or thing more lovely and precious than a wife to have and to hold,”
“Ohhh, I get the chicken thing now.”
“If I’m insane, I think you have a big part to play in that, don’t you think?” I ask and throw my arms wide, “I mean, sacrificing me on my wedding night? You think a girl comes out of that the same? Because, spoiler alert,” I hold up a finger to make my point, “she doesn’t!”
“My parents sold me out to a cult to be sacrificed, so I honestly think I’m behind the curve on that one.”
