Prince Kaelis is known for breaking his toys.

I might have a lot of shortcomings. I can be brash and bold. I can rush in, and I can say too much when emotions run high. But no one, no one, can ever claim that I am not loyal to those I love.
Don’t weep for an empty coffin.

He’s never going to make me feel small again. No one will. I’ll kill anyone who ever threatens me or those I love. There will be no quarter for them. No peace. I’ll remake the whole fucking world if that’s what it takes to have my family and keep them safe.
“Fine. I don’t care how you look. Be a bloody mess. Be the rat queen of Eclipse City that you so want to be. But I will not ever have it be said I don’t care for those closest to me.”
“Someone is going to try to kill your father.” Kaelis, very slowly, returns his pen to its stand and steeples his fingers, as though I have come to him with a business proposal and not news of his sire’s impending demise. “Clara,” he starts slowly. “You cannot just barge in here and talk dirty to me.”
“Clara, I know what I am. I know how the world sees me, and that they’re not all wrong. To be honest, most of the time, I don’t even care.” He shrugs. “If to bring about a new world—a better world—I must be the villain, if I must do evil things for the greater good, then so be it. I’ll play the part now and be reborn a hero in my next life.”
Kaelis, you annoying creature. I didn’t want to like you even a little bit.
Love me, hate me, but only look at me like my existence sets you on fire…
“Every time I see you, I see what the world could be.”
“I doubt the world around me. I fear what I can’t control. But I do not doubt myself, and I do not fear the one thing I have power over: me.” I bring the blade to his throat.
“If there is a next time, I’ll end him once and for all,” I correct. “Very well. If my lady demands it.” My lady…It sounds good on his lips.
“You consume my every waking moment. Devour my thoughts. You’ve poisoned my halls with your scent. Flooded my dreams to the point that I cannot tell if it is a delight or a nightmare to want to drown in you. If you hate me, then hate me, let us be eternal rivals. Let any future where you and I are more than enemies finally be done and gone. “If you want something else from me, then take it. But, if it is neither, then set me free and let me be done with you once and for all.”
“Look at me with those deep crimson eyes. Look at me with all the hate you can manage and then some to hide the fact that you love me, and me alone.”
We’re such a fucked-up pair. But…I rather like it that way…
Those eyes…I could spend forever being lost in them and thank him for the time.
“You’ll never be done with me,” Kaelis says with all the arrogance in the world. “I will haunt you from this world into the next.”
