A Course in Miracles

The Holy Spirit is the highest communication medium. Miracles do not involve this type of communication, because they are temporary communication devices. When you return to your original form of communication with God by direct revelation, the need for miracles is over.

Revelation is intensely personal and cannot be meaningfully translated. That is why any attempt to describe it in words is impossible.

Equals should not be in awe of one another because awe implies inequality.

Spirit is in a state of grace forever. Your reality is only spirit. Therefore you are in a state of grace forever.

You can and should deny any belief that error can hurt you.

The ability to learn has no value when change is no longer necessary.

Only while there is a belief in differences is learning meaningful.

I am here only to be truly helpful. I am here to represent Him Who sent me. I do not have to worry about what to say or what to do, because He Who sent me will direct me.

I am content to be wherever He wishes, knowing He goes there with me. I will be healed as I let Him teach me to heal.

Fear prevents me from giving you my control.

Before you choose to do anything, ask me if your choice is in accord with mine. If you are sure that it is, there will be no fear.

Only your mind can produce fear. It does so whenever it is conflicted in what it wants, producing inevitable strain because wanting and doing are discordant. This can be corrected only by accepting a unified goal.

Say to yourself that you must somehow have chosen not to love, or the fear could not have arisen.

All thinking produces form at some level.

What you believe is true for you.

It is essential, however, that you free yourself from fear quickly, because you must emerge from the conflict if you are to bring peace to other minds.

No one who lives in fear is really alive.

When everything you retain is lovable, there is no reason for fear to remain with you. This is your part in the Atonement. Chapter 3.

I was not “punished” because you were bad. The wholly benign lesson the Atonement teaches is lost if it is tainted with this kind of distortion in any form.

Good teachers never terrorize their students. To terrorize is to attack, and this results in rejection of what the teacher offers. The result is learning failure.

The understanding of the innocent is truth. That is why their altars are truly radiant.

The questioning mind perceives itself in time, and therefore looks for future answers. The closed mind believes the future and the present will be the same. This establishes a seemingly stable state that is usually an attempt to counteract an underlying fear that the future will be worse than the present. This fear inhibits the tendency to question at all.

Knowledge never involves comparisons.

When your mood tells you that you have chosen wrongly, and this is so whenever you are not joyous, then know this need not be. In every case you have thought wrongly about some brother God created, and are perceiving images your ego makes in a darkened glass.

When you are sad, know this need not be. Depression comes from a sense of being deprived of something you want and do not have. Remember that you are deprived of nothing except by your own decisions, and then decide otherwise.

Watch your mind for the temptations of the ego, and do not be deceived by it. It offers you nothing. When you have given up this voluntary dis-spiriting, you will see how your mind can focus and rise above fatigue and heal. Yet you are not sufficiently vigilant against the demands of the ego to disengage yourself. This need not be.

It is possible even in this world to hear only that Voice and no other. It takes effort and great willingness to learn. It is the final lesson that I learned, and God’s Sons are as equal as learners as they are as Sons.

The Voice of the Holy Spirit does not command, because It is incapable of

arrogance. It does not demand, because It does not seek control. It does not overcome, because It does not attack. It merely reminds. It is compelling only because of what It reminds you of. It brings to your mind the other way, remaining quiet even in the midst of the turmoil you may make. The Voice for God is always quiet, because It speaks of peace. Peace is stronger than war because it heals. War is division, not increase. No one gains from strife. What profiteth it a man if he gain the whole world and lose his own soul? If you listen to the wrong voice you have lost sight of your soul. You cannot lose it, but you can not know it. It is therefore “lost” to you until you choose right.

What you acknowledge in your brother you are acknowledging in yourself, and what you share you strengthen.

If you believe there is strife you will react viciously, because the idea of danger has entered your mind.

Physical birth is not a beginning; it is a continuing.

The joint will of the Sonship is the only creator that can create like the Father, because only the complete can think completely, and the thinking of God lacks nothing. Everything you think that is not through the Holy Spirit is lacking.

Guilt is a sure sign that your thinking is unnatural.

The guiltless mind cannot suffer. Being sane, the mind heals the body because it has been healed.

must have decided wrongly, because I am not at peace. I made the decision myself, but I can also decide otherwise.

This is only because the fearful are apt to perceive fearfully.

A teacher does not give experience, because he did not learn it. It revealed itself to him at its appointed time.

There is no peace except the peace of God, And I am glad and thankful it is so.
