“I make no apologies for wanting the kingdom to know you’re mine for the night.”
“It’s just you and me, angel. You keep those pretty eyes on me,”
“A monster, but for you, never to you.”
I want to bring the man who kneels for no one to his knees.
“I’m not a good man, Elowen. Never overestimate my compassion or underestimate my brutality.”
“I’m greedy for the sight of you and starved for the taste of you.”
“When this night is over nobody in the kingdom will doubt how much I want you.”
The man who bows and kneels for no king or god doesn’t hesitate to do so for me.
Sweet gods, his begging will be my undoing.
“When I fuck you, Elowen, it won’t be in some seedy brothel. It’s going to be somewhere I can make you come so many times your throat will be hoarse from screaming my name.”
“Be a good girl and ride my fingers.”
“You can comfort yourself by saying tonight is a mission, but we both know you’re not going to give me something fake. There’s nobody around but you’re still on my lap. Moan my name because my fingers are fucking you exactly how you want them.”
“You will beg for death long before it embraces you,” Cayden states.
Cayden’s anger consumes him and transforms him into the demon whispered about throughout Ravaryn. The demon his enemies have nightmares of in their next lives. No form of salvation or reincarnation will be enough to escape Cayden Veles.
“A death with a blade in my hands is far more enticing than a death in chains.”
“I’ve made many men beg; your performance is subpar.”
“I’m going to make you wish you were dead long before Elowen ends you,” Cayden snarls.
“You can die with the knowledge that no matter what you did to Elowen, she won.”
If wrath were personified, it would look like this version of Cayden.
“But I’m going to be busy bringing Garrick and Imirath to their gods-damned knees after I free my dragons.”
Being understood and accepted is one of the greatest forms of intimacy. He doesn’t shy away from my darkness; he walks toward it and kneels with me in the blood we’ve spilled.
“I know,” he murmurs. “But if you allow me, I’ll find a way to help you carry them when they get too heavy.”
“I use the memories as armor and ammunition. Nobody wins harder than someone who once lost everything. Don’t let them take more from you.”
“You’re so much braver than you believe, and stronger than you feel in this moment.”
“Never apologize for a kill you deserved to take. I would have done the same.”
“I want my enemies to know what fate awaits them if they make an attempt on my life. Ravaryn is threatened by my existence, but I won’t hide any longer.”
“Your enemies are my enemies, El. Never doubt that.”
“Shoot straight, bloodthirsty archer.”
and I won’t be able to focus unless I know you’re safe.”
“If you wanted a docile queen, then you should’ve made a deal with someone else.”
“I swear to you, I’m coming back. I’ll never make you a promise I can’t keep.”
“If you feel left out, I’ll find someone for you to stab later,” he calls out over his shoulder.
“I’d like to stab you.”
“I love it when you sweet...

“I’m still breathing and getting bossed around by someone half my size; life has never been better.”
Being wrapped up in the arms of the person who became my family when I felt entirely alone is one of my favorite feelings.
“You’re my brother in every way that counts.”
The first person to show me what it is to live. We’ve never needed blood to be siblings, and I know the bond we’ve created is something I’ll carry with me into the afterlife or the next life, whenever the time comes.
We creep through the forest like the Lord and Lady of Death and Vengeance tracking down which souls they’d like to take next.
It doesn’t feel like I’m in Imirath; all I’m surrounded by is Cayden.
“Elowen, we’re so lucky to have been blessed with not one, but three daft children.”
“Take as many jabs as you want, but you know damn well you’d never allow me to walk into enemy territory without you. You stood with me when odds were stacked against us, and we fought our way out.”
“You can’t expect me to love you for half my life and be happy to see you here,” I say to Finnian.
“And you can’t expect me to watch you leave.”
Nestled in a damp cave in the one kingdom where everyone wants me dead, I’ve never felt safer. I’d be honored to fight beside everyone in this cave, but I can’t pick their battles for them. We’re
“I don’t talk in my sleep.”
“You said my name quite a few times,” Cayden adds.
“You are the most vexing person I’ve ever met. I must’ve been dreaming of the day I’ll never see you again.”
“And yet I’m still on your m...
