I thought if I gave you a bit of hell, maybe scared you off, that you’d stop—but you gave it right back to me.” His fingertips dusted the top of my head, playing with the loose strands. “If Jake wasn’t waiting for you, and I hadn’t gotten that radio call, I would’ve tossed you in my truck and taken you home.”
