As you’ve probably seen on the cameras already, the Warren is just a front. I’m developing something big here man.”
“Something that will make a better soldier—” Cooper was saying. “—make them strong both mentally and physically.”
“With this tech they can withstand adverse conditions, calculate distances, see heat signatures, all the bells and whistles,”
“They will also be able to withstand pain and psychological torture.”
“Imagine Graham,” Cooper said. “Not being able to break.”
Human trafficking to fund his science project.
My own indiscretions had been out of revenge and desperation, not just to hurt someone because I could—although I supposed Cooper was telling himself the same justification. Either way, it involved Kaelin now and I wasn’t giving her back.
CALLING IN FAVOR NEED EXTRACTION FOR TWO PEOPLE 68.602092, -122.150103 COME IN HOT ENEMY COOPER, HAS TAC TEAM
“His name is Cal. He’s one of my old army buddies.”
He mentioned he was there to find out who the big players were, like networking.
“That’s why I was in handcuffs,” I added. “I’m being charged with war crimes.”
Apparently my disappearance was the big trending topic.
It was of a forest scene where the light was filtering through the trees illuminating a scene of three deer grazing near a river. It was one of mine.
It was one of the scenes from the first few days with Graham when I came to appreciate the beauty of the forest.
When I went back to work I tried to find him.
No one knew about the human trafficking ring in the woods.
I made several other calls to specific organizations but no one did anything.
I don’t think they believed the human experimenting piece.
I started hacking into Cooper’s systems and I’d been spending the last six months compiling evidence against him.
everyday I was terrified he’d come for me.
Kraven. Kraven was here.
Kraven was gone.
Theron North. “Admiring my newest acquisition?”
“I like you better like this—more wolf than rabbit.”
“Well, the rabbit found some claws I see.” A chill raced down my spine at that voice. Cooper was sitting in my living room in my armchair,
“I want you back, Kaelin,” he said.
“I’ve tried,” he said. “Trust me. You’re a lot of work and a pain in my ass—but you apparently are the best. No one quite has your perfect culmination of skills. You’re a rare rabbit.”
“There are four of them. Armed.” “Expecting company?”
three men in black tactical gear swept in and dropped the remaining two men in the room.
It was Kraven.
He looked like a fallen angel coming to save me from hell. But I knew better than to call him my savior.
“I couldn’t get you out of my head and I knew it didn’t matter if I owned you or not—you were mine.” “My antihero,”
If he wasn’t dead, he would try again.
You’re the fucking CTO of the company he was talking about.”
“What do you need to take Cooper down?”
“I need a TAC team. My PMC contact is on a job and his referral is taking forever to get back to me. I have all the data I could ever want but what I need now is someone to get in there and physically shut it down.”
“I was in a plane crash with him and he ended up rescuing me from the Warren.”
“Whoa, whoa—a plane crash?”
“Baby, my contacts are much deeper and darker than yours—you say go, I say how soon?”
All my love (because I don’t think what I feel for you can be anything less), —G
“I don’t care what other relationships you have, darlin’.” Then his eyes darkened. “Just so long as they understand they have to share.”
Cal told me we were delaying another day so we could add a last minute team.
If it wasn’t for the fact that this team included one of the best explosive specialists in the industry I would have complained more.
Gabriel Gryffin, known as “Deathwing,” was a bit of a celebrity in the s...
This highlight has been truncated due to consecutive passage length restrictions.
The last few years I only heard his name in association with taking down sex trafficking rings so I wasn’t entirely surprised when I heard he would be joining us.
The leader was an older man with salt and pepper hair with a short, neat beard to match and at his shoulder was Deathwing.
“Well, if it isn’t Kaelin’s fallen angels come to avenge her,”
“Does he know?” Cooper gasped out around North’s hand around his throat. “Does he know how much you paid for her?”
“You’re Kraven?” North nodded at me and I shook my head in disbelief. “She told me about you—said I shouldn’t kill you if I ever saw you.” That got a chuckle out of him. “Glad to hear it. She got your email by the way—said to tell you hi.” “Ah, so that’s how you found me,” I mused. It all made sense now.
