“What? Kel went back to Winter?” “Aye,” my father says, and a mischievous twinkle appears in his eye. “Word is, the High Prince of Winter is pissed.”
I catch myself mid-eye roll, remembering everyone can now see when I do that.
He looks up at me, eyes like a star-swept sky. “You shouldn’t be saying my name like that, Flower.”
I thought every part inside of me was broken, but this shatters me even more. “We’ve already had our last kiss.”
“What can I say?” I explain. “The path to my forgiveness was pushing him into the pond.”
But his scars are the only ones I want to bear.
“Maybe one day you can,” Keldarion says. “Consider that your motivation, Cas.” “Trust me.” I grab the edge of Keldarion’s shirt and pull it over his head. “I’m motivated.”
“I scared you back then, didn’t I?” I ask with a hint of a smile. For one moment, his gaze softens. “Petal, you scare me now.”
“You think you’ll die without Kel tonight?” he growls, golden hair wild, eyes a storm. “That’s how I feel about you. It’s how I’ve felt about you every damned day since you were taken. It’s tearing me apart.”
That glimmering face curves into a snarl when he sees me. He breaks away from the attendants and roughly grabs my arm. “You can’t go in there looking like that.”
