fate.26 Revelation itself seems to give us a synopsis of its own message in several places that contain many of the seven themes noted above: the seven beatitudes scattered throughout the book (see discussion on p. 39); ch. 14, especially vv. 1–13; the text of 21:5–8, which we might call the “seven last words of God”; and the epilogue (22:6–21). I would suggest, therefore, that a slightly expanded version of the subtitle of this book reflects these texts and is a good summary of Revelation’s message: uncivil worship and witness: following the Lamb out of fallen Babylon into the new creation.27 ...more
