and grace and catastrophe and victory and striving and romance and laughter and betrayal—if you knew to watch for those things. If you knew how to see those things, which not everyone did.

quiet didn’t mean stupid or inarticulate;

It didn’t take much for a person to be happy, he thought; certainly not the big things people expected. It was small things.
