“Do you do this a lot?” Liam interjects. “Do what?” I ask. “Pretend like your shit isn’t as important as other people’s shit.”
“I think I’m going to like it when you beg.”
“Take it all, Piper. You’re so good, you deserve it.”
“You’re the most beautiful woman I’ve ever seen.”
“You’re my favorite person.”
“How’s that, wife?” he asks, his lips moving to my jaw. “Official enough for you?”
“I’d be very careful what you say next,” I tell him slowly, so there’s no room for the dumbass to mishear me. “That’s my wife you’re talking about.”
“And what my girl wants, my girl gets.”
“The first day I met you, I thought you were the most beautiful woman in the room. Any room,”
There she is.
“My wife is so fucking pretty.”
“Because it’s one of the things you said you wanted, and I want them too. With you. Slow dancing in the kitchen. Kissing in the rain. Getting matching tattoos and being an absolute idiot with the next person you fall for. Be an idiot with me, Piper. I’m begging you, because I’m head over heels for you.”
I wasn’t kidding when I said you’re my favorite person in the world. No one else could ever come close.”
A million lifetimes with her won’t be enough. It’ll never be enough. But fuck if I’m going to work until my body gives out to make sure every day is the best fucking day of her life.
“The only person I want to celebrate with is you.”
I always got by on being happy enough, but I didn’t know what happiness was until I met you. Not really. Now every day is the best day of my fucking life. Because of you.”
There’s some hazy version of myself that existed before I met you, and then everything after. I’ve never loved anything like I love you, and I’ll never love anything else like I love you.”
“And what the hell are you going to do with that?” “Dunno. Might ask you to marry me for real. Might move you into my apartment so I can see you every morning. Might love you until you’re so sick of me, you’ll be fucking begging for me to leave you alone. And you know I like it when you beg.” He opens the penalty box and sets me on the bench. He crouches in front of me and grins. “Want to stick around to find out?”
