And if I didn’t keep moving, I swore my bones would jump out of my body, and run off on their own. To be a wanderer was in my soul.
A cord of longing tugged at my gut. I’d never had that, not with anyone. I probably never would. It meant growing roots and watching vines crawl up your body, so tight and unyielding they could suffocate you. My skin itched at the thought.
In fact, if I were to guess, I’d assume he hocked weapons, but…surely not.
The endless hours on the road soothed my soul, whittling away the splinters that gathered along my edges anytime I spent too much time surrounded by other people.
“This is why you didn’t want me to come into the woods,” said Ragnar. “You never touched my kegs.” “Yeah. Does that disappoint you?” He gazed up at my dragon’s powerful form. When he spoke, his voice was full of awe. “I’ve never been happier to be so incredibly wrong.” And finally, I smiled.
“An absolute masterpiece,”
They have a yearly event I try to attend if I can make it across the sea in time. A big competition to find the fittest under the mountain.
“Lilia.” I reached out and tucked a wayward strand of silver hair behind her ear, my fingers gently brushing her skin. She shivered and looked back at me. The flush had crept down her neck. “Come here.” Her eyes darted back and forth between mine. “I am here.” “Come closer, so I can kiss you.”
When I pulled back, a lazy, satisfied smile lined his lips, even though we’d barely done a thing. “I could spend all night like this, but we should probably finish our meal, eh?” I relaxed against him. He would have gone so much further, I knew, but he saw my hesitation. His understanding of my inner thoughts made me want to kiss him all over again,
I looked at him, and he looked at me, and suddenly, the world seemed to make sense for once. This man. I felt like I’d been looking for him my whole life, and I’d never realized it until now.
“Only a monster can see into the heart of a monster,” she murmured so softly I couldn’t be sure I’d heard her right.
“Fuck, Lilia.” He palmed the wood on either side of my head. “I want to do unspeakable things to you.” My breath caught. “You say that like it’s a bad thing.”
And I’d certainly never wanted to be touched like this. For a very long time, I’d thought I might never want it. But I’d finally found someone who made me feel. And I wanted to make him feel, too.
You are going to be the end of me. And I would gladly face oblivion to have her look at me just like this.
“Then we’ll wander as long as you want.” He brushed his lips against mine. “The only home I’ll ever need is you.”
