He loosed a roar that would have sent even the bravest man running. Luckily, I was no man.
“I would never harm a dragon, Lilia. I’d never let anyone else harm one, either.”
“If you believe a few barrels of beer are more important than the deep, life-altering connection between two lonely souls, then I’m afraid you’re more hopeless than a hound without a bone.”
squeal when she spotted her friends. She rushed over to their bench and flung her arms around their necks. And I wondered what that felt like, to have someone—or a lot of someones—that happy to see you.
“You love it, don’t you?” “The Isles? Yes, of course.” “No, wandering.” He gestured at the rolling sea. “Seeing new places, experiencing new things. I can tell by the way you speak of it, it’s in your soul.”
“You love this so much,” he said quietly. “The wilds, the walks, the wandering road. There’s this look you get when we’re out here. You don’t have it in Riverwold. It’s pure contentment.”
“Only a monster can see into the heart of a monster,”
she turned to Ragnar, flashing her teeth. “Take good care of her, or I’ll show you why us mountain trolls have the reputation that we do.”

“I’d spend forever wandering the world with you,” he murmured.

She cocked her head, looking Daella up and down, taking in her cropped shirt and the way she leaned against my brother’s shoulder. Not for support, but because they didn’t much like having more than the smallest gap of air between them, if that.
“Riverwold is where I fell in love with you, so it’s one of my favorite places in the world.”
“I would stay anywhere for you.”
Smiling, I palmed his cheek. “I do love Riverwold, it’s true. But I love the road more, especially when you wander it with me.”
“Then we’ll wander as long as you want.” He brushed his lips against mine. “The only ho...
