“He’s got you, Lilia,” said Ragnar. “And from where I’m sitting, he’s damn lucky he does.”
“You’re far too obsessed with romance. Aren’t there more important things to worry about right now?” “What, ale?”
“If you believe a few barrels of beer are more important than the deep, life-altering connection between two lonely souls, then I’m afraid you’re more hopeless than a hound without a bone.”
I wondered what that felt like, to have someone—or a lot of someones—that happy to see you.
He tucked his forefinger beneath my chin, and the chills were replaced by a storm of sparks. “So let’s see this thing through, darling. I’ll be downstairs.”
“Seeing new places, experiencing new things. I can tell by the way you speak of it, it’s in your soul.”
I found it difficult to breathe. Or think. Or feel anything but a tugging, insistent want. She was so fates-damned beautiful.
This man was strong and powerful, but also kind. And far more gentle than he looked, at least with me.
You are going to be the end of me. And I would gladly face oblivion to have her look at me just like this.
