For anyone who has ever wanted the fantasy version of a wintry Hallmark romance movie
It was then I realized his mouth was moving. He stopped talking, then cocked his head. I blinked, my cheeks heating. “I’m sorry?” The left side of his lips tilted up in a half-smile—or a smirk. “I asked if you’re all right. Do you need to sit down? You look a bit flushed.”
“How can I trust you?” I whispered. “After everything.” He came closer until he was only a hair’s breadth away. “Look into my eyes.” Hands fisted, I met his piercing stare. “I would never harm a dragon, Lilia. I’d never let anyone else harm one, either.”
I rolled my eyes. “You’re far too obsessed with romance. Aren’t there more important things to worry about right now?” “What, ale?” She laughed. “If you believe a few barrels of beer are more important than the deep, life-altering connection between two lonely souls, then I’m afraid you’re more hopeless than a hound without a bone.”
Laughing, he tucked his knuckle beneath my chin. “I’m only joking, darling. I’ve done a lot of things I’m not proud of, and I’d probably do some of them again. But one thing I’d never do is pressure a woman into going to bed with me. So good night, Lilia. I’ll see you in the morning.”
“Lilia.” I reached out and tucked a wayward strand of silver hair behind her ear, my fingers gently brushing her skin. She shivered and looked back at me. The flush had crept down her neck. “Come here.” Her eyes darted back and forth between mine. “I am here.” “Come closer, so I can kiss you.” Her lips parted as a shudder went through her. I slid my fingers through her silken hair, gently tugged her to me, and then captured her mouth with mine.
His eyes softened. “You don’t have to be nervous with me, Lil. I would never do something you didn’t want.”
You are going to be the end of me. And I would gladly face oblivion to have her look at me just like this.
“I’d spend forever wandering the world with you,” he murmured.
I pulled back and smiled. “Here’s to adventure and endless horizons.” “And every night spent with you.”
