“You’re the one gaping at me, darling.”
I swore my dragon smiled.
But still, I called out, “Ragnar.” Pausing, he glanced over his shoulder. “Yes?” “Thank you,” I said, my voice softening. “For searching the storm for me, and for giving up your room.” He smiled. “It was my pleasure.”
“I’m cute, eh? Go on.”
“Just stay behind me,” he said. “I won’t let any harm come to you.”
“Truth be told, I’m happy things turned out as they did. Because it means I’m here with you now, sharing a campfire and talking about ale and life and dragons. How could anything be better than that?”
“Come here.” Her eyes darted back and forth between mine. “I am here.” “Come closer, so I can kiss you.”
“So, everything we shared…” “It was real, Lilia. It’s all been real.”
“Come find me when you’re ready for me.”
This man. I felt like I’d been looking for him my whole life, and I’d never realized it until now. I didn’t want to be alone anymore. Not when there was someone like him.
“I am a dragon,” he said, grinding out the words. “Most people would think I’m a monster.” “You are Ragnar,” I breathed. “And that is all that matters to me.”
His touch was like a balm that I’d never known I needed. And I finally felt peace.
You are going to be the end of me. And I would gladly face oblivion to have her look at me just like this.
“Here’s to adventure and endless horizons.” “And every night spent with you.”
“Then we’ll wander as long as you want.” He brushed his lips against mine. “The only home I’ll ever need is you.”
