As a recovering doormat, sometimes I forgot how much my inability to stand up for myself affected the people I loved.
When things are hard, that’s when we learn who we really are.
I care about you. And if I can make your life easier, even in the smallest of ways, then I’ll do it. Every time.”
It had been my own fucked-up belief system that led me to feeling unseen and unloved. So I worked like hell to deprogram all the toxic thought patterns. “It’s taken a lot of work and reflection, but I learned to believe in myself and in my own abilities. I have to be my own hero, stand on my own two feet.”
To remind myself of how two struggling people came together and built one another up while having a lot of fun in the process.
“You taught me that we get to create our own futures,” he mused. “That we can grow and heal from the past and chase our dreams. I want to do it with you, as a team, every single day.”
