Motherhood was only easy if you did it the wrong way.

She’d clutched the expectations of motherhood to her heart without examining them. And now she had to raise polite, athletic, popular, empathetic, resilient, interesting, academically gifted children who would one day attend Ivy League schools on fencing scholarships while she created a perfect home and cooked healthy organic meals, all while running the World Bank, and exercising. Anything less was failure.
