I wait for the cops to reverse down the hill before letting Gil drive me back to the mansion, where I find Benito leaving the room I left Emberly in, carrying vials of blood. “What’s this?” I raise my brows. “The woman at the Di Marco Law Group wants a DNA test,” he replies. “You couldn’t take a swab from her mouth?” He smirks. “It’s probably filled with Montesano DNA.” A laugh bursts from my chest. “You’re an asshole.” “Am I wrong?”
“I’m no hero. I’m a beast.” She exhales a broken laugh. “Yeah. I saw that from the way you smashed Dominic’s head like a pumpkin, but you’re my beast.”
“What’s the surprise?” I rock forward on my tiptoes and kiss him on the lips. He opens the back door and gestures for me to get in. “You’ll see.” My stomach rumbles, and I lower myself into the back seat. “Will there at least be snacks?” “As much as you can handle, baby.” He slides in beside me and squeezes my thigh. “Somehow, I don’t think you’re talking about food.” He answers with a long, deep kiss. “You can snack on these nuts.” I draw back, ready to make a joke when he reaches into a drawer and extracts a jar containing almonds, hazelnuts, and pistachios. “Oh.” I place a hand on my chest.
