No one tells you in college that once you graduate your life moves at lightning speed. Then you’re looking up two years later, realizing you’re about to turn twenty-five and you haven’t done anything you planned yet.
We might be older, but we’re still siblings. We love each other in our own way and growing into adulthood hasn’t changed that. One minute we’ll be squabbling like we’re in Lord of the Flies, the next we’re united and raising hell together.
Caroline pouts. “Stupid work. Who let us be adults? With bills and responsibility? This sucks.” “And existential dread? No thanks,” Julia adds. “Hate it,” Lauren says. “Absolute bullshit,” I confirm.
Reagan leans close to whisper to me. “Babe, he’s all green flags. Keep him.”
“I’ll be everything for you, sweetheart. Every fantasy. Every dream. Whatever you need, I want to be it.”
Hey. You’re talking to a professional disaster. It’s okay to be in your feels and not know what the hell is going on. In the words a really cool person told me recently, no one’s perfect.
Everyone takes a different amount of time to figure it all out, too. There’s no set way we all have to follow. Some people find their way early and some of us need longer.
It’s not just this connection we’ve formed that’s become my lifeline. It’s Eve. She’s my safe space. My comfort.
“Come on, coach.” Alex glances from Eve to Lainey. “There’s no point holding back. It just wastes time. Trust me.”
“Hell no, Evie. As far as I’m concerned, we’ve been together this whole time without this part. Maybe we did it all backwards, but I’m done. I want you—all of you. I want you to be mine.”
I just want to exist with Eve Lombard as the universe passes us by.
His hand splays over my heart. “I meant what I said. It’s because you’re gorgeous in here that you shine brighter than those fireworks.”
