“Hey, Evie.” His smile is crooked with the whistle caught between his teeth.
“It looks good on you.” His charming smile stretches with amusement. “Does it?”
I almost laugh at myself because used to is such a lie.
“If you’re sure you’re not busy.” “I’m never too busy for you.”
Fictional men will always be superior to reality.
whenever she’s around it’s like she’s the sun in the room. And I’m a planet that doesn’t know how to fight the pull of her orbit. She’s all I’m able to look at.
“You can do it.”
“You can do anything.”
“You think so?”
“Yes. In all the years I’ve known you as we grew up, I’ve seen what you’re capable of when you put your mind to something.”
unfortunately I need to make money to live. Who decided that? Rude.
How could that asshole she used to date not see her and think she’s the most awesome girl he’s ever met?
“Good girl.”
“Eve isn’t yours anymore, so get her name out of your goddamn mouth.”
It’s official. I’m fucked.
CraftyCutie: You *were* a hockey player. Now you’re a coach. Which…okay, there are some hot coaches out there. MightyPuck: Am I one of them?
I wanted to kiss you all damn night. I still want to. I can’t stop thinking about it.
However you want to do this, let me be the guy when you need someone to make you feel good. Okay? Promise it’s me you’ll call.
“I always feel better when I talk to you. Goodnight, sweetheart,” I murmur on a new voice clip. “Sleep well.”
I shrug out of my coaching jacket and drape it around her shoulders.
If she turns around, I’ll see Assistant Coach Kincaid across her back.
Because wearing my name makes her look like she’s mine.
“I’ll be everything for you, sweetheart. Every fantasy. Every dream. Whatever you need, I want to be it.”
I can’t imagine leaving now. Not when a piece of my heart resides there with her.
She makes me want to be strong for her when she needs help to carry her burdens, but it’s gratifying to know she understands and offers me the same in return when I need to lean on her. I don’t feel as alone being able to share this with her.
It’s Eve. She’s my safe space. My comfort.
she peeks at me from her periphery to see if she has my attention. It’s not even a question. If she’s in the room, she’s all that exists to me.
“Get your hands off her if you plan on keeping them.”
“That wasn’t a suggestion. You’re done touching my girl.”
“I’m done fighting. Done standing around while other men think they can put their hands on you.”
“Tell me you’re tired of fighting it, too. I need to hear you admit it so I know I’m not the only one constantly going insane trying not to touch you and show you that you belong with me.”
“This isn’t only for one night. That’s not enough. Not even close.”
“It’s not?”
“Hell no, Evie. As far as I’m concerned, we’ve been together this whole time without this part. Maybe we did it all backwards, but I’m done. I wan...

“Are you mine?” I shiver at his hot breath ghosting across my lips. “Yes. God, yes. I’ve been yours for years.”
“Good, because I’m not letting you go.”
“We’re going back to my place. I’m tired of not having you next to me in bed.”
“You’re mine,” I marvel. “I am. Which makes you mine, too.”
Eve: I’m not even dressed sexy right now. I literally put no effort into this outfit. Cole: What you’re wearing never matters to me. You’re always sexy, and I always want you.
“Your coaching jacket? Why?” “Because I like seeing you wearing my name.”
“Are you having a good time?” “I always have a great time when I’m with you.”
“It feels like all I have are good days with you.”
“It’s pretty,” I say. “Not as beautiful as you. Nothing comes close,”
“By the way, it wasn’t a line, sweetheart.” His hand splays over my heart. “I meant what I said. It’s because you’re gorgeous in here that you shine brighter than those fireworks.”
My heart is firmly tied to his.
When he gets to me, he claps his palms against mine and holds on with a wink. Laughter bubbles out of me. “Sorry, I’m immune to flirting from Heston’s hockey boys,” I say.
“Alright, get a move on,” Cole says mildly.
I’ll be cheering real loud.”
“For my team,” she sasses. “I scream for you all the time.” “Damn right you do. Because you’re my good girl.”
Eve’s just—perfect. The best damn thing that’s ever happened to me.
