My greatest hope is that you will find hope. My prayer is that this book will help you stop burying your head in the sand.
Money doesn’t control you; you control it. The only power money has is to make you more of what you already are.
You are now the hero in your story. Not a tool, not a plan—you.
As my buddy Chris Campbell says, “No more ‘one day.’ Today is DAY ONE.”
I might say something you don’t agree with. Okay, yell back at me, throw the book across the room if you need to . . . but then keep reading. Remember, we’re on the same team.
As my longtime pastor and good friend David Hughes says, “It’s time to think about what you think about.”
Language matters when it comes to money. “We ain’t got no money” sounds hopeless and empty.
It’s as simple as changing up your wording from “We ain’t got no money” to something with a better future in sight. Like, “Hey, let’s plan a way to make it happen,” or “I’m not going to spend money on that this month, but we can plan for it next month,” or even, “If we can come up with some extra money, we’ll make it happen.”
Proverbs 18:21 says, “The tongue has the power of life and death.” Another translation of that same proverb says, “Words kill, words give life; they’re either poison or fruit—you choose” (MSG).
We continue to buy things we can’t afford with money we don’t have, to impress people we don’t even know or like!
In the words of my buddy Dr. John Delony, “we must demand evidence” of our thoughts to hold them accountable. Are they true? Are they productive?
My girl Rachel Cruze says, “A budget gives you permission to spend.”
Budgets are not the consequence for people living paycheck to paycheck. Budgets are the antidote for people living paycheck to paycheck.
Dave Ramsey says, “When you get married, you become French: we, we.”
