Devon is my fated mate.
"I just thought..." My voice trails off as emotion clogs my throat. I take a shaky breath. "I thought our mating night meant something. I thought he wanted me. That I was more than just a means to an end."
Maybe it's time to finally face the fact that the issue isn't whatever world I happen to be inhabiting at the moment. The issue is me. I'm just not the kind of person anyone—especially Constantine—is going to fall head over heels in love with. Or apparently even respect enough to stick around the morning after.
It also kind of puts a damper on things when your brother is the new main character in your former favorite book, and you can't reread it without needing decades of therapy.
Sure, I've been overlooked, bullied, and rejected all my life, but this cuts deeper than anything that's come before. Because for the first time, I dared to hope. I dared to let myself believe that I might finally find love and belonging. And Constantine took that hope away from me with the same careless ease with which he took my virginity.
Maybe I just need to stitch another fucking pillow.
If he knew I was in heat, he'd probably be thrilled that his defective little mate is finally functional.
I'm not giving up on you, he vows. I will never give up. I'll stay here as long as it takes for you to come down and hear me out. And if you’re so stubborn that you hold on until you fall, I will catch you.
This is all I've ever wanted with him. This sense of connection. Of being cherished.
"Good boy," he murmurs, his voice low and soothing. "One day, you’ll be full of far more than just my seed."
It was like talking to a brick wall sometimes. A hot as fuck brick wall, but a brick wall nonetheless. A hot as fuck brick wall that's currently leaning over me, massaging my stomach as he talks about breeding me right after we had a huge fight after he chased me up a tree like a cat.
"You like this, don't you?" he growls, his voice low and rumbling. "You like being filled with my come."
"You shouldn't trust me, little omega. I'm not the hero in this story, remember? I'm the villain."
"That a hero will sacrifice you for the world, but a villain will sacrifice the world for you."
"Were you watching me sleep?" he asks drowsily. "I was," I admit hesitantly, unsure why that would be a problem. Devon's eyes sparkle with amusement. "That’s very Edward of you."
Apparently, my favorite positions boil down to "stuck to Constantine's massive cock" and "stuck to Constantine's massive cock, but facedown."
