He says hotly, “Simple is better on you. Perfection doesn’t need any embellishment.”
Also on the list of prohibited topics: If you don’t have a dead wife, why did you freak out when you saw me in my wedding dress? Why do you look at me like you want to run me over with your car but turn around and give me such beautiful compliments? Then hate yourself for giving them?
Finally, he says gruffly, “You’re so fucking beautiful.”
Now I understand how moths feel around open flames.
“A few days. I need to kiss you.” “No.” It’s faint and not altogether convincing. “Then come sit on my lap and let me finger fuck you while I feed you dinner.”
“It must be all the champagne I’ve had. There’s no possible way you just said that.”
“I said it. And you liked it.” After a pause, he demands, “Look at me.”
Still behind me, he moves closer and puts his mouth near my ear. In a voice like velvet, he says, “I want to taste every inch of you. I want to hear you scream my name. I want to make you come so hard you forget your own. I don’t have time to fuck around—excuse the pun—with the kind of wooing
I’d usually do to win you, so that’s why I’m being so blunt.
God, why do you hate me? Was it something I did? Do you disapprove of all the vibrators?
“Every man’s dangerous. Even the harmless ones.”
“Interrupting me is one thing that will get you taken over my knee, beautiful girl. Sass is another.” He looks at my mouth and moistens his lips.
“There’s only one of you.”
He murmurs, “I want everything you have to give, Natalie, for as long as you want to give it to me.”
A handsome man in a well-fitted suit is my Kryptonite.
He growls, “Making you mine.”
I’d rather have the ugly truth than a beautiful lie.
Breathing hard, he puts his mouth against my ear. “Fuck going out. I need to eat you for dinner tonight.”
I whisper, “So either don’t tell me your secrets or don’t make me fall in love with you. Because once I fall in, even death can’t make me fall out.”
“Mine now,” he whispers hotly, his voice triumphant. “You come on my cock, you’re mine.”
I reach up and touch his face. I murmur, “All those years I spent waiting … I don’t think it was for him anymore. I think it was for you.”
“That’s where people go when they need to feel better: home.” “But your home is in New York.” “Home can be a person, too. That’s what you are for me.”
Looking down at me with half-lidded eyes, he says, “Permission to do with you as I please.”
He growls, “You were born to be mine. My queen. You don’t kneel for anyone but me. And I fucking worship you for it.”
“Thank you.” “For what?” “Giving me something to live for.”
He says quietly, “The one hundred million dollars your fiancé stole from Max.”
David’s gulp is audible. “What do you want, then?” Kage looks at me again, and now his eyes are burning. Two burning dark coals of love. “My girl.”
I say softly, “Any man who threatens you loses his life, no matter who he is.”
I say softly, “I told you, baby. It’s my duty and pleasure to take care of you.”
And the only time you’ve been fine in the past five years is when you’re with him.”
His reply is instant. “If I say yes, will you marry me?”
Natalie Peterson is the brightest flame, and I’m the moth flying straight into her fire. Okay, baby. Let’s see how hot we’re gonna burn.
