Then she drew in a shuddering breath and sat up, scooting out of my reach. “Thanks. I’m fine.” Her shoulders hunched inward, and she pinched at the bridge of her nose. She lied—she was not fine. Irritation flashed through me. Why were humans so endlessly deceitful?
“It is nothing,” I said. It was not a lie. My back was fine, the bites on my arm were almost completely healed, and the abrasions to my skin did not bear thinking about compared to her wellbeing.
At least the fifth time he has said a version of 'it is fine' when clearly hurt. But apparently, it only counts as a lie when Dierdre says it!?!?!?!?!
