But what I love more than anything else is the moment I step onto the ice and I see her.
“I promise I’ll never forget that you love me,” I tell her. “Not even when I’m old and lose my memory and shit. The one thing I will always remember is that you love me, Kathryn.”
“They don’t hate you. They’re jealous because they can’t fucking have you. No one can have you, because you’re mine,”
When I’m with him, I feel like there’s nothing in this world that can touch me. Nothing that can hurt me.
“You know you’re always safe with me, Kathryn. I’d die before I ever let anything hurt you,”
“I don’t want any babies if they’re not yours, Gray. I want a little girl with your green eyes. We’ll name her Graycee, and I already know she’s going to be a huge daddy’s girl.”
I don’t think I’ve ever loved anyone like I love this man. There isn’t anything I wouldn’t do for him, even if it costs me everything… He’s my priority.
“I know. I love you too, more than anything else in the entire world. Don’t forget that. Promise,” I remind him. “I’ll never forget, Kathryn.”
“She was supposed to be mine,”
“I don’t want any babies if they’re not yours, Gray. I want a little girl with your green eyes. We’ll name her Graycee, and I already know she’s going to be a huge daddy’s girl.”
We had plans. We had our whole future laid out. Marriage, kids, hockey. It was all supposed to be ours. Together.
“March eighteenth. Every year, he mourns you like you died, Kathryn. You know how I know that? Because I’ve flown out here on that day, every year, to help him through it. Do you have any idea what it’s been like watching him fall apart? He looked for you for years, Kathryn. And even though I knew it was your choice, I always hoped he’d find you and bring you back.”
“Two thousand, one hundred, and eighty-four days,” he says. “That’s how long I’ve been looking for you. So, imagine my surprise when you show up right here, in Vancouver, on my metaphorical doorstep, after all this time.”
“Hi, Graycee. I’m Grayson,” he introduces himself.
“You’re my daddy?”
“Yeah, I am,” Gray says.
“Are you finished being busy? Are you going to live with me now?” Graycee asks him.
