Who does she think she is, anyway? Hillary Clinton?
“Was what?” I ask. At least, that’s what I want to ask. It comes out sounding more like “Wathwart.” Which, incidentally, sounds like my Harry Potter name.
“Nah. It’s unlikely to make it beyond the sports blogs, at most. The mainstream media don’t really care too much who pro athletes date… unless you’re dating Taylor Swift.”
All of a sudden, Seb’s hands are on my waist and he’s jerking me towards him. “I’m a jealous man, Madelyn,” he whispers in my ear. “So you’ll be wearing my name tonight, or nobody’s.”
To make a certain someone in the crowd proud that she’s wearing my damn name on her back.
“You look at her like my daddy looks at my mommy. And they’re super happy together. So, I’m going to go with yes. She is lucky to be married to you.”
Somewhere in the far, far distance, Dot applauds. “Now, THEY would get a sign that says ‘Live, Laugh, Love.’”
I wrap my hands around Adam’s arms and shove him, hard as I can, into the refrigerator, which wobbles as I pin him there. My hands fist in his shirt as I hiss in my most low, vicious voice, “Don’t you ever speak to my wife like that again, understand?”
“Canadian.” He shrugs. “We handle the cold much better than you wussy southerners.”
She looks like a Disney princess—one of those new badass ones who don’t need a man to swoop in and save them, because they’re awesome at kicking ass and taking names all on their own, and the prince is just lucky to be by their side at the end of the story.
