I should have known. No man can be that pretty without also being cruel.
Now, I hate him. First for pointing out my mistake and second for acting like it’s not a big deal. To me, it’s a very big deal indeed.
Tiffany: Too good looking and obviously knows it. He’s entitled. He’s arrogant. And he’s way too quick to point out other people’s mistakes.
Ethan has no idea about the mistakes I’ve made. No one does.
but time moves on and things change. You can either change with them or resist and get stuck. I chose to let it all go.
time moves on and things change. You can either change with them or resist and get stuck. I chose to let it all go. To become someone different. Not someone better or worse. Just different, and that’s okay.”
“I have lots of boyfriends.” His head snaps up, eyebrows slashing together. Laughing at his expression, I clarify. “Book boyfriends, that is.” I gesture to the paperback, now safely tucked away in my bag. “Much more reliable than real-life boyfriends. They’re there when I need them and go away when I don’t.”
“Someone who will be an equal partner. A woman that I admire. Who knows her own mind and isn’t afraid to tell me what she thinks.”
“I just can’t get rid of you, can I?” “That’s right. You’re stuck with me.” He glares right back, flecks of gold swirling in his amber eyes. There’s a certainty to his words. Like he’s making a threat…or a promise.
“I don’t need your pity.” I scowl at him, offended. “Pity is the last thing I associate with you. I admire you. Everyone does. You work hard and don’t care what people think about you.”
“I think it’s nice that you’re so nice.”
“I know you can, Tiffy. You’re a savage when you want to be. You’re mistaken. I wasn’t defending you. I was merely correcting Patrick.”
“This is your first time at Disney World too?” I ask. His face is so close I can see how his scar is puckered from where he had stitches. “Yeah. You know what I’m most excited about?” “What?” “Seeing it with you.”
It’s hard to believe in something when you have no proof it exists.”
Now, I’m not so sure. Which is truly the braver thing? To force people away? Or to pull them close?
“Do you like me better this way?” I ask tentatively. Without hesitation, he answers, “I like you all ways, happy and sad. I like all the Tiffany’s past, present, and future. I’ll take them all.”
Tiffy, Off to the gym. Be back to pick you up at 8 a.m. Ethan PS Last night was the best night.
“I should be the one apologizing, Tiffy. You needed me tonight, but I’ve been too busy nursing my upset feelings. I forgot that you have wounds that need healing too.”
Softly, I confess. “I love you.” Another heart-melting kiss. “Have I told you recently that I’m glad you’re here with me?” Ethan grins crookedly. “It’s like I’m always telling you. You’re stuck with me.”
