The Summer of Yes

but society lies to women when it says they can have it all. A family, a career, success at home and success in the workplace. You can’t. At least not all at the same time.

A job? Yes. That I could’ve had. But that’s not what I wanted. I wanted to make my mark. I wanted to build something bigger than myself. That didn’t leave a lot of room for anything or anyone else.

For me, the second I met that man, I knew I would never love anyone else.

Whoever said words are powerful wasn’t kidding. Words had the power to change the course of my life. Six little words, in fact. “You don’t have what it takes.”

“You’ll never be happy if you listen to what everyone else says about you, Kelsey. It’s what you say about you that matters.”

“How you walk says a lot about you,” I tell her. “You should walk with a purpose. Always with a purpose.”

Don’t wait to love the people you love. We aren’t guaranteed a second chance—we’re only lucky enough to seize one when it comes.”
