For my heart and my sunshine and my man of steel
Hope pieces together dreams out of broken glass only for reality to come and smash them all over again. Hope is the cruelest punishment of them all. Because without hope, I know: it’s not her, you fool. It can’t be. It can never be. Because I killed her.
“You remembered after forgetting, and that’s just as valuable as knowing the first time,”
Our hands fit together like a lock and key, but it’s more than that. He feels like home.
“I’m not about to serve you,” I say. That should be my role without a servant here. Even if we were equal in status, women are expected to serve the men and then eat whatever is unwanted. “I wasn’t expecting you to,” he says. “I want you to take what you desire first.” I glance over at him. “Why?” “Because I think we have things backward in Yusan. I think ladies should be served first.”
“Sometimes I feel like I’ve been emptied, like there’s nothing more of the girl I used to be.”
And if your family doesn’t love you, how can you ever really have a place in this world?
“You’re in love with her,” I say, speaking low. Ty turns to me. He hesitates like he’s about to deny it, but then he exhales. “Yes.” I stare at the other divan. Mikail has checked over here a few times. She hasn’t turned once. “And she hates you,” I say. “That’s correct.”
“Yay! Let’s go.” Aeri links her arm in mine. I ignore it. The swelling in my chest I get when her hand holds my biceps. It’s nothing.
“Well, this is nice,” Aeri says, all smiles like normal. No situational awareness. Zero. But that’s what I’m here for.
I imitate his broad-shouldered walk. “Stop it,” he says. But then he laughs. Actually laughs. And good gods…that’s an incredible sound.
“You’re the weirdest person I’ve ever met,” he grumbles. I raise my palms. “I don’t know what you want me to do about that, Royo.” “Nothing,” he says, then adds, “I like it.”
“Why did you do that?” I asked. “You just risked death to kiss me.” “Sora, I’d die a hundred times to kiss your lips.”
I don’t want to pretend for the rest of my life. I don’t want to be noble or recognized by my father anymore. I want to be with the people who value me for me, not what I can be if I change. I want tomorrow and tomorrow and tomorrow with Royo.
