“We are so excited to have you as our Winter Queen,” he beamed. “We are at your service and lucky for you, you will never be able to get rid of us. Our job is to prepare you for the ceremony…prepare the bed so a son can be born.”
“You can’t just go back to sleep!” “Yeah I can, watch me,” he hushed. “Watch how I do it. Look–––” “Keenan, this is–––” His loud obnoxious snores blew through the air as I rolled my eyes. “See? See how easy that is?” He asked, turning to look back at me. When he saw my face, he sighed with a heavy chest.
“Merry Christmas nigga…I’m the new Santa, fuck you talm’ bout,” he let out like he was charging at someone. “King Jingle these nuts nigga. Yeaaah.”
I screamed as my entire body flipped on my backside with my foot slipping one after the other. I ended up sliding down a few feet with Keenan rushing to get to me until I was laying flat on my back.
Keenan in his ghetto hood fashion banged his fist against the window. “I just wanted something to eat!” He hollered.
Day Dream…the counterpart to her brother Nightmare, both descendants of the Sandman, keeper of dreams, illusions, and sleep.
She looked daring…sexy…exotic and royal. Queen Eve looked like the finest piece of chocolate that no one could ever afford. She looked unattainable and that only made Kellan proud that he was by her side.
His eyes couldn’t stop staring her down before he casually took her hand from me. “I got her, thank you though.”
Keenan simply stared at me before he used his hand to cup my face, his thumb gently pulling at my chin and lining my lower lip to tease. I laid into his palm, wanting that warmth and smiled at him. That seemed to trigger his immediate response to lean and kiss me on the lips.
I closed my eyes feeling…almost safe with this complete stranger for the first time.
Like it was second nature, I raised my hand in the air and clapped twice and every single public light fixture popped on like a switch, and I gasped. “Shit! That actually worked!”
Keenan was pissed but I found all of this to be more than amusing.
Y'all played with this girl’s life from the time she was born and didn’t say a fucking word!”
We date back thousands of years…there was magic, souls, nature, power, and chaos. Every black person is a descendant from these 5 bloodlines but we are able to trace it back to the beginning. We are a direct lineage of magic which operates in the form of love, spirits, happiness, and joy.
They used a white man to be the face of Christmas…told boys and girls that a man named Santa in a red suit comes down and makes children happy. They take and take from us and every year, it gets worse with the movies, the shows, the books…the truth about this holiday is that it came from us to breathe magic into our people, to give them hope. To keep that alive, we need Saint and his wife to continue to spread their love and magic to our people…”
Unlike me, the two attendants rushed over to fix her meal for her, making sure she didn’t touch anything or want for nothing. They even buttered her damn bread for her and she sat like a Queen…a tired but regal Queen waiting to be served.
“Aye,” pointing my fork at them, “y'all shut y'all old ass the fuck up or get out my house with that. Pick which one you want,” I threatened as the two immediately kept quiet.
Slowly, I sat up to look out the window seeing the traffic of Atlanta. The longer you stare at it, the more you realize it was nothing but a visual running in a loop…or maybe… I stood up and slowly reached to tap the window as the city of Atlanta disappeared and showed nothing but a snowy forest full of pine trees.
“But not in the real world. See, this is what I mean,” throwing my hands up as I turned to face the ceiling. “I just…I can’t with some of this stuff.” “You don’t think I could get you in real life?” He asked and of course, I laughed. “Oh…you don’t think I could pull you? Oh nah…my pimp game is impeccable baby.”
“I think I can sleep now,” I whispered, feeling the need to be dainty and somewhat…ultra feminine around him. He just…Keenan made me want to be pampered, rescued, saved, and touched all in one stare…
“That nigga worships the ground you walk on!” Keenan blurted out. “I can’t even get a glass of water at night but you!” pointing at me as I laughed.
Night was the opposite of Day’s soft, and chill demeanor. He was the life of the party, a pretty light skinned guy with hazel eyes and always kept a few girls from my court on his arm. He, and Keenan became close friends, in addition to a few others around the city.
“I like him because I don’t know… I like him because I can do the ugliest cry in front of him, pour out all my feelings onto him, and he would just… He just takes my feelings…all my cries about my parents and says, you good? Like,” laughing as I shook my head, “no I’m not good. I’m sitting here crying and he’s like nooo I mean…you got it out of your system? You want me to hold you, I can hold you…and then he does this weird awkward hug,” I blurted out with laughter, trying to mimic Keenan’s touch. “And he’s like…I like when you cry. I’on like when you’re sad but I like when you cry. It makes

“You’re in love with him. No spell can make you come to such a detailed reason, that sounds like love…Not lust like I originally thought.”
“And as you fall in loveeee…our Queen casts her spell upon the starry night. When she laid eyes on her beloved Saint, it was love at first sight,”
You just have to believe it's real…that spell is you and the Saint…and you’re casting it on every little black boy and girl in the world. The more you two fall in love, and care, and feel…the more it spreads to everyone else…Christmas becomes alive and well…presents are filled, trees are full…and everyone is merry.”
“Your Highness, you can ride with me boo,” Kellan said. “I can trail behind everyone in my car–––” “No, she’s gonna ride with me, her husband,” Keenan said as I sneered at him using the term husband. He loved saying that because he knew I would react every time.
“CLEAR THE STREETS! IF I SEE ONE CAR OR BODY WHILE MY QUEEN IS ON THE MOVE! I WILL RUIN YOUR LIFE! LITERALLY!”
“HE WORTH A MILL ON THE LOW!” Keenan rapped with his finger in the air. “PLUS THE WEATHER MAN SAID THAT IT’S A LIGHT CHANCE OF SNOOOOW!”
Keenan kept behind me like he was ready to be released from backup and go straight in but instead, the woman stopped…just an inch or two shorter than my height and stared at me.
“So we can just lay here then…I don’t mind…” Keenan said calmly but he had that laser focus on me like he was staring into my soul.
“I’m serious, that shit is weird as fuck–––I WILL SET THIS WHOLE SHIT ON FIRE! WE ALL GONE BE IN WINTER HELL IN THIS BITCH!”
Keenan was naturally intimate in the way he moves, looks, and smiles like he either wanted to devour me or hold me.
What if this is some dream…What if none of this is real?” “Then when I wake up, I’ma find you,”
“It won’t…I told you, we set for life. You and me, no matter what…”
“Oh naaah… I’ll remember you the moment I lay eyes on you,” he said as he leaned down to kiss me. “Trust me. Our story is just beginning…”
I looked at him and my eyes…my heart…my soul said I wish I could give him everything that he could ever deserve and more in that moment.
5 families were prepared to appear tonight on Christmas Eve…as is tradition. Magic. Souls. Nature. Power. Chaos. These were the five original black bloodlines needed to create the perfect balance in the world.
If you asked who was more important to Kellan, he would easily say without hesitation that his Queen is the most important figure tonight.
“Honey, you don’t compete when you don’t compare,” Kellan said with a snap of his fingers before pointing at her shoes. “Learn how to walk in those clogs for heels before you step to someone like me.”
Kellan smirked, thinking…he could match the bitchy energy and throw it right back to her. Not his fault your husband cheated and had a baby on you before the wedding. No one is to blame but him.
She walked in wearing the widest green gown that flowed out from her corset, her orange hair falling in waves along her shoulders as the beautiful gold crown sat perfectly on her head. She looked rich in her deep complexion, soft eyes and raised chin like she knew she was to be envied. She no longer looked unsure or uncertain of her role. Queen Eve carried herself with the utmost confidence.
