I was there when it happened. Locked inside my brain is every answer. I saw this person. I was there, and I can’t remember. I might even know why it happened.
“Who am I now?” “You’re the same girl you’ve always been. You’re funny, kind, loving, and smart. You are brave, and while we all know you’re scared, you will find your way back.”
“If you couldn’t remember the last three years of your life, what would you do?” He looks at me with sympathy. “I would go back to the beginning and work to find the end.”
“I wish I could have a different ending than losing Isaac.” “But what if that single moment changed your entire story?” “Maybe it should because my brain doesn’t want to remember the plot anyway . . .”
when I turn to look toward Spencer, he’s already gone. For some reason, the thought of him leaving makes my chest hurt.
“You’ve always had my back.” “I always will.”
“I know exactly who you are, Brielle Davis. You are smart and sweet. You are a horrific dancer who thinks she’s the next big star. You sing in the car because you can’t stop yourself. You love kids and want to keep all of them from ever being in a bad situation.
“Selfishly, we all want things, but doing what is best for the other person is what love is.”
“And all I want is for you to get better—and not just so we’ll know what happened. I want you to remember because before everything went sideways, you were happy. I want you to find that again, so if something or someone doesn’t feel right to you, try to remember what I said about your instinct, okay?”
I promise I won’t lie to you, Brielle. I never have.”
“Brielle, I know more than anyone how fleeting things are. I know what it’s like to lose everything. I know what it’s like to be left behind and forgotten about.”
“You have so much more than you’re letting yourself admit, you just need to have a little faith, okay? It isn’t going to be easy, and yes, you’re going to get frustrated, but you aren’t alone. You never have been.”
No matter what roads we take, there is only one outcome. Our journey is what makes life worth a damn.
I’m here, praying that even if she doesn’t ever remember our past, she’ll fall in love with me again.
If I were engaged to someone who went radio silent for this long, the worry would break me.” He’s more than breaking, he’s shattered.
When this started between us, it wasn’t supposed to turn serious. I should’ve known, though, that Brielle would be a force that would conquer my heart.
We started off as nothing and she became everything. Now, it’s all gone. Every kiss. Every touch. Every fucking memory was erased.
“Yeah, you should worry because I love her more than my own life.”
“Every woman I’ve ever loved has forgotten about me. I don’t know where there’s value there.”
“Did she heal you?” Now his eyes meet mine. “She helped me see what I was missing. So, in a way, yes.” “What were you missing?” “Love.”
