To understand political office as a Christian vocation is obviously prone to manifold abuses. Anyone claiming that God is on their side or that they alone represent the position that God endorses is treading on dangerous ground, perhaps even thin ice, for God is not mocked by such human hubris. It is sheer arrogance to claim that one has a special relationship with God so that our challengers and critics are opposed to God if they are opposing us.
