Although a multicultural and liberal democracy will be conflictual – there are going to be different views on the common good, different solutions to political and economic problems, bitter arguments over sex and end-of-life issues – the resolution to any conflict is managing differences within diversity in a way that is equitable, charitable and proportionate.
