Free me from my despair that I have messed up my life beyond repair. Help me, save me. That’s all I ask, and it is everything. Free me. Save me. Lead me. Show me. I am incapable of clarity.

The truth is that you love me, you will protect me, you will provide for me and fill the desires of my heart. You alone know what is best for me and the path that I should take. You alone know my heart . . . and know to be gentle with it. You alone delight in me, take joy in me and pride in me. You are my true Father. You would never beat me down, humiliate me, lead me in a false way, or arbitrarily deny me joy and happiness. You forgive me, you bought and paid for me. I am in your family and our bond is blood—unbreakable. You will never forsake me, you will never grow tired of me. You will never change your mind about me, your love is unfailing. You love me because of who you are, not because of who I am or what I have done. You have compassion on me and come to rescue me in times of trouble. You are interested in my well-being and mental health. You care if I am happy or lonely or sad. You watch me, my every move, you breathe every breath with me. I am your precious child; you are fiercely protective of me. You will stand with me and stand up for me, [saying]: “She is mine.”

We don’t need bullhorns and bumper stickers. We don’t need to accost people on the street. We don’t need to grammatically mistreat the word witness. May we all simply exude the sweet aroma that is a telltale sign of time spent with God: goodness, kindness, and love. And let that fragrance linger in the air.
