“What do they want?” Claire asked. It was then that I realized I was the only one who knew about the bones. I had seen no fish, which meant pickings had to be slim for them. But they were eating something, and I knew I was the only one in our group who understood the truth. Whatever they were, they were going to kill us. They would eat us and add our bones to the pile.
Warmth flooded my veins. I loved her. But loving meant leaving sometimes.
