There’s also a well-known psychological puzzle where you look at an image and see a young woman or an old lady, as if you’re viewing a negative or positive image. You can’t see both faces at once. You can flip between the two images, but seeing the one ‘locks out’ the other. Similarly, seeing the negative in events stops you seeing the positive that may be there all along.
