From an epistemological point of view, we here encounter once again a mechanical paradigm that openly aspires to become a paradigm of nature, not of biological laws in this case but of physical ones. Precisely, a finite-state machine, such as the digital computer, is elevated to become the ontological model for the structure of the universe itself.
