But, rather than reiterating the computationalism of McCulloch, Pitts, and Wiener, von Neumann – himself no romantic – made at the end a remarkable intervention: he reversed the relation between logic and nature, computer and brain, to the point of suggesting that the study of neurophysiology could one day reshape logic altogether.
