There it was. That ridiculous guilt of hers. The martyr complex.

She shrugged. I’m not the bad guy. But she could barely manage to hold that thought in her head. It kept breaking apart.

the way she consistently does destructive acts without much thought is startling. her guiding force is the larger picture as it relates to her needs but she doesn't pick up on smaller complexities of her actions.

“I’m sorry,” he whispered. “I’m so angry. I can’t shut it off. I wanted to hurt him. I wanted to punish him. I couldn’t see you. I couldn’t think. I can’t shut it off. I’m sorry.”

But he wasn’t prepared to appear weak and pathetic just now.

So although in my human mind Dominic came first, I had been meant for August for centuries already. It was as though we were magically betrothed.

this makes me hate this book so so much more
