The wise democratic theorist held the relativist view that there is no absolute right or wrong, but that each community needs to work out for itself what to deem right or wrong. This view of laws as contingently created during human progress, and therefore relative, was grounded in Protagoras’s historical vision of the progress made by humans as they traveled from cave dwelling to the city-state.
