Pythagoras, inquired into the secrets that the pure science of invisible numbers could reveal about the structure of the discernible world. Pythagoras was born on the Ionian island of Samos but abandoned it, perhaps fleeing the tyranny of Polycrates, and settled in Croton on the ball of the foot of south Italy.
