“I promise no one will notice.” “But you did,” I point out, raising my hand to my hair, but he stops me again before I can touch it. “It’s my job to notice the little things.”
“Peaches?” He grins when I roll my eyes at the nickname. Although it’s kind of grown on me. “Yeah?” “You’re worth it.”
May 26. Peach juice. Our talk on the beach. The bracelets. The museum. The pictures. The painting. The dolphins. The sunset. Her.
I’ve never paid attention to the sky. Never paid attention to the colors that blend and spread vastly. Not until right now, in this very moment with Lola. She stares at the sky with awe, like it’s the first time she’s witnessing a sunset. But I stare at her like it’s the first time I’m seeing her.
“You want to go somewhere?” “I’ll go wherever you want.”
I’ve always had what I wanted, but now I have everything I need.
“Obsessed much?” “You have no idea.” I wink at her.
Because where you go, I go.”
“This world is filled with infinite possibilities. Some are in our control and some aren’t. Meeting you was out of my control, but loving you was something I had complete and total control of. You’re my most favorite and unexpected possibility, and I don’t want to stop exploring the endless possibilities life has to offer as long as you’re in it.”
Life may not have turned out the way I wanted, but in the end, it turned out to be everything I needed.
