Werewolves could exist in daylight, unlike their vampire neighbors, but it was more draining.
As Beta, she existed in some weird space between Alpha and the rest of the pack where she was either vice principal or big sister and she could never tell which one she was supposed to be in the moment.
“I need a cup of tea. I need a warm fire. And I need you, azizam. That’s enough for me.”
“It means you’re special to me.” She poked her again. “Happy now?” Sera grinned. “The happiest.”
“With good reason, too. What you two have isn’t —” Someone knocked on the front door. Emmaline glanced at it before finishing her thought. “It isn’t something you can force. It happens naturally. You fit together well.” With a smile, Emmaline excused herself to get the door.
She needed to trade her weaker form for the one that made her feel strong and worthy of being at Parisa’s side.
“It would weaken the pack. It weakens the Alpha.” “How can love ever weaken anybody?” “That surprisingly sappy coming from you.”
“Just because I don’t believe in the human notion of monogamy doesn’t mean I can’t fall deeply in love.”
I’ve collected love, lovers, and hurt, but I’ve never felt weakened by any of it. Not in any way that I couldn’t learn from and gain something from.” He placed his large hands on Sera’s shoulders. “Everyone I’ve loved made me stronger, even when I lost them.”
Love is wild. Love is fearful. Love is anger and passion and a desperate need to just talk to each other and be there.”
“I’m your Beta because I believe in you and this pack. I’m your friend because our chats by the fire over coffee and tea are the best part of my day and you trust me the way that I trust you. And —” She faltered, summoning the strength to continue. “And I love you because I hate going a day without seeing you. I miss bringing you flowers every afternoon and watching your face light up. Your voice makes me feel calm and grounded. Your presence makes me feel like I can do anything. And I’d never forgive myself, ever, if I didn’t tell you all of this.”
“You don’t know what you have to offer me?” Parisa lifted her head. “Then it looks like I have the job of making you see what I see in you.”
