“Out of every man in this world, I trust you the most. I know you would never harm her, and I know you can give her what she needs. I’m her brother. I can’t give her the things her Daddy can. You have my full blessing.”
“I want to make her mine.” The corners of his lips twitch slightly like he’s trying not to smile. “It goes without saying if you hurt her in any way, I’ll slit your throat myself and give her your head.” “I’d put a bullet in my own head if I ever hurt her.” This time, he does smile. “I know you would. That’s why you have my blessing.”
A few times, I’ve wondered if Bradley is dead right now. And then I try to figure out if the possibility upsets me. If I’m disgusted that Bash may have killed the guy. Then, I started googling therapists because the thought of him doing that for me turned me on more than anything. Seriously, what is wrong with me?
“Thank God. Bash is here with three other big dudes, and they’re setting up security cameras and changing out the locks on all the doors and windows. I tried to stop them, but the big hairy one they keep calling Wolf laughed at me and started taking the doorknob apart anyway.”
“Did you send Bash over to my house to install security cameras?” My voice is shrill as I shout, but I don’t care. These overbearing men are going to feel my wrath. Kieran chuckles. “Nope. Don’t know anything about that. That’s all Bash.”
When we first got here, she went paler than she already was, and I thought she was going to pass out. I wonder if Chloe told her what I do for a living.
If I had my way, I would have shown up with a moving company and had both women moved into one of my houses by morning. Since things are so new, I figured that might be taking it a step too far. Maybe next week.
“Am I going too far?” “Probably. At least she knows there’s a camera system going in. Cali didn’t have a clue Declan was watching her before they got together. So, there is that.”
“You have your bulletproof vest in your car? Might want to put it on,” Kieran says. “Does she have a fucking gun?” “Aye. I gave her one on her twenty-first birthday. Didn’t want her going out partying without protection.”
My girl. Mad as hell but still apologizing for almost hurting someone. Cute little thing.
Wolf grins at her. “No problem, Little one. The one you want to hit is over there.”
Despite not being able to have you, I knew I’d still do anything it took to make you feel safe.”
“I kept my distance. I didn’t ask Kieran about you because I didn’t want to tip him off that I’ve thought about you every single day since that night. I tried not to. But every time I closed my eyes, there you were. I kept my obsession a secret, but all it took was your brother seeing us together for him to know I have feelings for you.
If you don’t tell me that, if you don’t say those words, the chase is on, Little girl.”
He’s a protector. Even if the way he protects is a little…unhinged.
He declared that I’m his. What that all entails, I’m not sure. Does he mean I’m his girlfriend? That seems a little juvenile. Do mafia men have girlfriends? Maybe I should ask Kieran.
“Nobody hurts what’s mine and lives to talk about it.” His voice is low and deadly. A shiver runs up my spine, goosebumps spreading over my flesh. Bash might be a monster, but I’ve never felt so safe in my life.
If I kill Kieran, she won’t have to spend time with him. Then again, if I off him, she’ll be sad, and I don’t want that. Shit. I guess I’ll have to deal with it. Maybe
“Yes, stop trying to guilt me. You know we’re family. But you two are walking chaos.” Scarlet shrugs. “We’re also the only reason you guys ever laugh, so there is that.”
I’ll sit my ass here and watch this damn shifter dude lock Belle up in his lair. Actually, it’s not a terrible idea. Maybe the Beast is onto something with that. Would Kieran approve, though? Or is that taking it too far? Probably too far. For now.
I’m actually on board with it. Which is why I had Chloe followed home last night by a couple of men. Can never be too safe when it comes to the treasures in our life.
Cali is nearby looking at a makeup display. She must take pity on the woman because she comes over to me and smiles. “Don’t worry. He can afford it. It’s better if you start packing them up instead of asking questions. He’s sort of a caveman and doesn’t communicate very well.”
“I heard that. I’m telling your Daddy about your filthy language.” “Snitches get stitches, Bash. Just remember that.”
“Hey, if you can get past all his red flags, I can too. Red flags, where? All I see is green,” she says with a grin.
I giggle and roll my eyes. “I don’t look at my brother that way, but women seem to ogle him whenever we’re in public, so I’d guess the answer is yes.”
“I’ve seen a lot of beautiful things in my life. Diamonds. Rubies. Sunrises and sunsets. Marriages. And not one of those things comes close to how breathtaking you are.”
“Bash! These are beautiful and way, way too much. Flowers are acceptable on a first date. Diamonds are not.”
“Who the fuck caused all of these?” he grinds out between clenched teeth.
And he’ll get what’s coming to him. His death won’t be quick. I don’t give a fuck if he is her father. No one, and I mean no one, hurts my girl.
Seventeen. He will pay for this. Seventeen times, he will pay. More. A lot more. Because that’s the thing with me. If you hurt what’s mine, the revenge is paid back tenfold.
“Why do you have a bottle of my perfume?” I glance at the white bottle on the counter. I also have one in my closet, my office, my nightstand, my car, and my kitchen. But I’ll keep that to myself for now.
“Um, no. Paisley and I are hanging out at our place and having a girls’ night.” “Our place, as in my house?” “Sebastian Gilroy, you’re being ridiculous.”
“Look at me, sweet baby,” he whispers. When I do, his eyes are pained. “I hope you never feel like you need them again. But if you do, will you promise me something?” I blink. “Will you promise to come talk to me first? Tell Daddy you’re feeling that way so we can deal with it together? Maybe we can explore other ways to give you the relief you seek? Safer ways.”
A quick, painful pinch catches me off guard, and she smiles. “If you die before me, I’m not going to be with you in heaven. I’ll find someone else.”
“Hey, man,” I say to Colt as we step into his house. Colt shuts the heavy wood door behind us. “You two are in trouble now.” His wife, Ava, bounds toward us. “You didn’t bring her?” she asks, pouting. “Who?” I ask. “Chloe. Cali and Scarlet were telling us about her.”
“And here I thought Declan was the stalker of the family. Taking it to the next level. Cool. Does she know you’ve had the cameras at her work tapped into?” Colt asks.
Ava clears her throat, and when we all turn to look at her, she narrows her eyes at Colt. “Daddy, I don’t think you have any room to talk about his stalking habits.”
The three of us hook our fingers together, and I know my secret is safe. I’m pretty sure both of these girls would go to their graves with a secret if a pinky promise were involved. The CIA wouldn’t be able to break them.
Kieran turns around in the front passenger seat. “Are you seriously fucking sniffing my sister’s underwear? With me right here in the car? You sick fuck.”
“What did Kieran’s face look like when Paisley stomped past him? Did he get that pinched scowl going on? Like he couldn’t believe anyone would defy him?” Cali asks.
I’ve paid the lease in full for the next two years. I’ve also put a lump sum toward each of the utilities, so she won’t have to worry about any bills. Her student loans have also been paid off, and there will be groceries delivered to her weekly. Now, give me your next argument so I can see that it’s taken care of.”
“You’ll miss not seeing her every day,” he says thoughtfully. I nod. “I think so.” “She can move in with us.
“Can I talk to Paisley about all of this?” “Of course, baby. Just know that whatever happens, you and I are living together. I’ll move into that townhouse if I have to.”
It’s brown and does some kind of shading to make her face look skinnier. At least that’s what she says. I think her face is pure perfection no matter what, but when I told her that, she grinned and rolled her eyes.
My eyes widen. Fucking Paisley. I like that girl.
“She never goes anywhere without at least one of her lipsticks, so I put a tracking device in each of them. Did you know your girl owns over two hundred tubes?”
Cage shrugs. “You asked me to make sure your women were all as safe as possible. You may not like how I do my work, but I get it done. Your girl is on the highway moving north as we speak.”
I stare at the big, muscular, slightly odd man sitting in front of me, and I can’t decide if I want to shoot him, hug him, or ask him for tips on how to stalk my girl more thoroughly. I can figure that out later.
“You’re not going to hurt me anymore! I. Am. Not. A. Victim!” I scream, slashing a new spot with each word.
“I’m on the side of the road. I killed him. I killed my bastard of a father. With my lipstick knife.” It’s silent for a second before Bash speaks. “That’s my fucking girl.”
