Throughout her life, she’d heard many stories about encounters with ghosts and the unexplained. She half believed some, disbelieved most—but before Thomas, there was one thing they all had in common. One thing that made her doubt: the people who told them were always far too eager to share. There was always a twinkle in the would-be storyteller’s eye, a visible spark—a look that said, “Well, do I have a tale for you.” Whatever their motivation, they were simply way too keen to have any sort of credibility. Even the ones who started their stories with “I don’t believe in ghosts or anything like that, but…” Deep down, Eve sensed they all wanted it to be true. Desperately wanted to tell anyone who would listen.
