“My people are very much a part of this place, but we were forced to leave this area, which was our home—and for many years my elders before me have fought against that, to say no,” she said. “We have already been pushed too far. We have already been punished too much. We are real. We are not just a name. We are humans—and we are a part of this world, right here, because this is our home.”
