Partly because many of our clients were older or had little experience moving over uneven terrain (and partly because we boatmen, for the most part, weren’t exactly CrossFit endurance athletes ourselves), these sojourns were usually brief, never more than a few hours ambling in shorts and sandals, with each person clutching a sandwich and a single bottle of water.
