Kindle Notes & Highlights
We are taught as young girls not to shine too bright or speak our minds because that’s being sassy. We are made to feel uncomfortable in our own homes by having to change out of “revealing” clothes because the creepy uncle is coming over. We are taught to not wear red nail polish because then we’ll be labeled as fast. We are taught to not wear our hair straight because then we are seen as being too grown. It’s our fault for being sexually assaulted because we shouldn’t have drank too much. We should have thought about what we were wearing before we went out for the night.
The world continues to take and take and take from us, never concerned with the fact that we already give everything we have and it still is never enough.

You’ve been running away from the tide but you can never get far enough before it takes you under.”
I need you to not make that sound again. It’s going to fill my head with endless possibilities of all the ways I can make you sing a symphony.”
